About Me:
I was born and raised in Honolulu (family moved there in the 1800s. I remember my dad talking about Waikiki when it was only swamps. I do not want out beautiful island to be like Oahu or Maui which was once beautiful when my dad was born there under the monarchy. I have been striving to preserve what we have on this the most beautiful of the islands....and also to improve the arts for our residents which I believe is necessary for the survival of our universe...sometimes I feel like a big failure.I have worked on Kauai environmental issues since 1963. I am responsible from getting the county to acquire the Poipu Beach park property from the tiny grave yard to the Nukomoi property...active inSOB(save our beaches)...participated in the Nukolii protest....was a member of the original Ohana O'Mahaulepu..did an environmental column for the Garden Island in the early 70s. I have also been active in the arts on Kauai and started Kauai's first Arts Council, the Kauai Community Arts Council, past president of the Kauai Art Group and the Kauai Women's Center (we started the rape crisis center and the spouse abuse shelter) on the boards of Kauai Society of Artists, and the Koloa Community Association and owner of Portraits of Hawaii (photography company in business almost a quarter of a centruy-specilizing in family and wedding portrature. Most recently I have led the movement to save Koloa's monkeypod trees-I am passionate about these trees...see my photo

...recently have been active, taking my husband Walter Briant's position on the Kauai Charter Commission (Walter passed away last November). I am pushing for adoption of a County manager system for the island of Kauai...something my husband Walter started over a year ago. We are bringing in someone from the mainland (Dave Moura from the national board) to speak to the communty from ICMA (international County/city Manager's Association) on MONDAY JUNE 15TH AT 6:00pM AT THE CONVENTION HALL..OPEN TO PUBLIC..hope we have a great attendance...the charter commission is looking at the numbers to decide if they can support this ammendment. the county has paid for his airfare and car and I am giving him my vacation rental house to stay in. Please invite your friends.
