Aloha kakou Kauai Round Table Hui,
Before I go on I would like to send my Mahalo to all who are in support of native issues and ask that you Kokua
This important issue;
The County of Kauai Intends to build a boardwalk over Wailua Beach Park Sand dunes. Building this boardwalk could cause erosion since it will definitely disturb the many native salt tolerant plants that hold these sand dunes intact during high surf. These plants also act a filter that protects Wailua Beach and its marine environment from petroleum and chemical contamination from the high traffic corridor of Kuhio during heavy rains. Many of these plants are used in medicinal and cultural practices today.
Further more, this boardwalk disrespects the spiritual and methaphysical reverence of one of the most divine places on this Planet, "Ka One Kapu O Alio" also known as The Sacred Sands of Alio. FYI Alio is the original name for Wailua beach which was once a continuous stretch of sandy beach that started at Ala Kukui Heiau and ended at Nukoli'i.
These sand dunes contain the last remaining Iwi’s of our Kupunas of Wailua with origins back to Tahiti. Portions of this burial have been desecrated for Kuhio Highway and majority for the initial development of Coco Palms.. We are asking Mayor Bernard Carvalho, please keep this small remaining area of the burial intact for more indept research and preservation. We also ask that an Ahu or alter be built in honor and respect for these Kupunas.
I would like to ask all members of Kauai Round Table to go to: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/alio09?e
and please sign this petition to Kokua Wailua. I apologize in advance for not being able to activate this hyper link for your convenience (I tried!). Please cut and paste i petition address to your search browser to review and sign petition.
Your Kokua is greatly appreciated.
Mahalo nui loa,
Noelani Diego-Josselin
